notes This is a very small annual moss, known as an 'ephemeral' species because it appears briefly in spring only. It is also known as Tortula acaulon. It was photograhed where I was staying in Sonoma County after another member of our group made a permitted collection of a small piece of 'moss turf' from open grassy soil in Austin Creek State Recreation area the same afternoon. The image is of the plants in situ in this moss turf,camera Canon D5 Mk II with 65mm 1x-5x Macro lens and ring flash
