INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Apr 17, 2015
  • location   About midway along Lockwood Valley Rd (Ventura County, California, US)
  • family Fabaceae
  • notes   Randy Morgan remarked that this appears to be what A. A. Heller originally described in 1905 as L. ruber. An image of Heller's type specimen appears here.

Two more descriptions, together with line drawings, appear in Smith(1918) and Abrams 1944 Flora of the Pacific States...both treating it as L. microcarpus var. ruber. This is currently synonymized in the Jepson eFlora treatment under L. microcarpus var. microcarpus...see the synonymy table on this CalFlora page.
