notes Many of the key characters for this fairly common CA species of Clarkia used in the Jepson eFlora Key to Clarkia are visible here. In particular: the fruit will be longer than the present size of the elongate inferior ovary visible here (which is already much larger than the 2-3 mm nut-like fruit of C. heterandra); there are 8 stamens; the inflorescence axis is basically straight near the buds, rather than significantly recurved; the buds are erect; the corolla is bowl-shaped; all 4 sepals remain fused at their tips; the visible immature ovary can be seen to be 4-grooved; there is a red zone at the base of the petals; and the stigma is exserted beyond the stamens. Note, however, that the decumbent habit of this particular plant is not typical! photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
