location
Just below summit of Mt. Diablo (Contra Costa County, California, US)notes Phacelia nemoralis, growing in the partial shade/shelter of an oak (probably Quercus wislizeni var. frutescens ...although I didn't carefully ID it). Notice the tall, erect, habit of this Phaclia; the large, (mostly) entire leaves; and the compact inflorescence with cylindric white corollas and long exserted stamens. This was the first year of growth following the ''Morgan Fire'' of September 9, 2013. This keyed to Phacelia nemoralis ssp. nemoralis in Jepson eFlora...as well as in L. W. Heckard's 1960 monograph ''Taxonomic Studies in the Phacelia magellanica Polyploid Complex'' (more info on the species also appears in Heckard's 1956 'The subspecies of Phacelia nemoralis Greene'). The nearest voucher location I could find online was this one, collected by the venerable Mary Bowerman. photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
