notes The April-June 2014 issue of the CNPS Bulletin featured an article about an invasive form of Dieteria canescens var. canescens that was discovered in the Mammoth Lakes area in the summer of 2012. Dr. Ronald Hartman, curator of the Rocky Mountain Herbarium at the University of Wyoming at Laramie, identified the plants as a form of D. canescens var. canescens native to western Wyoming and the Great Basin, but different than the version native to California, including the Mammoth Lakes region. Since the California native version of D. canescens var. canescens grows in the Mammoth Lakes region, the invasive plants there are being eradicated to prevent them from hybridizing with the California native version. After reading that article, we realized that these non-native Dieterias were the same as several populations of Dietaria growing in Hope Valley, Alpine County, that have been sighted over the last several years. These photos are of the invasive plants from outside California that are growing along Blues Lakes Road.camera Nikon Coolix 5400
