Along the Merced River. Yosemite National Park (Mariposa County, California, US)notes Rockfalls and rockslides occur frequently along the steep walls of Yosemite Valley. The most recent large slide at Cookie Cliff occurred on April 3, 1982, when 300,000 tons of El Capitan Granite broke loose and wiped out more than a quarter mile of Hwy 140, blocking the road for several weeks.
