Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Kipuka Puaulu (Hawaii, Big Island (Hawaiian Islands), US)family
Rutaceae
plant community Dry to mesic forests; sometimes margins of wet forestsnotes This tree is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands and is found on Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Hawaii. All the flowers I observed on this tree had 2 petals which is typical, while sometimes 4 petals may be present. Apparently, the reduced number of petals in this species is due to a fusion of 4 petals into 2 pairs. Flowers are usually white or yellowish white, but sometimes have a reddish tinge, as in this photo. Elevation of this tree was approximately 4040ft/1232m.camera Nikon D80 Nikkor 60mm f/1:2.8
