notes This is a photo of the single plant of this species that was discovered in the wild near Doyle Drive, San Francisco, in 2009, after having been thought to be extinct in the wild since 1942. The plant is seen here at its Doyle Drive location (in the wild) about nine days before it was moved to make way for expansion of Doyle Drive. This taxon was originally described as A. franciscana by Alice Eastwood. It was as treated as A. hooveri ssp. franciscana in the first 'Jepson Manual' but is once again given specific rank as A. franciscana in the 2012 'Jepson Manual'keywords: Alice Eastwood; Franciscan Manzanita
