notes A robust clump of Fire Poppy (Papaver californicum) in the spring following a fire the preceding winter. Note how the buds are nodding downwards, while the flowers and fruits are held erect. The white-flowered plant in the background at left is Phacelia brachyloba, and the yellow-flowered plant behind the Fire Poppy is Amsinckia spectabilis. photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
