plant community Base of granite boulder near streambank, granitic soil in subalpine at treelinenotes These plants are in an intergrading population Aquilegia pubescens and Aquilegia formosa; see my other photo for an image of what seems to be a pure pubescens plant. Individuals in this population ranged from nearly pure pubescens (pale yellow, upward-facing, long nectar spurs) to nearly pure formsa (red, nodding, short nectar spurs). The location is at the upper elevation of the formosa range and in the middle of the pubescens range.keywords: Aquilegia,flower,Sierra Nevada,speciation
