Bovec basin, near Poljanca place, east slopes of Mt. Kopa, 1.439 m (4.721 feet), East Julian Alps (Posoèje, Slovenia)notes Anamorph: Sympodiophora polyporicola - Habitat: Warm deciduous tree forest, predominantly Ostrya carpinifolia, Fraxinus ornus, Corylus avellana, flat terrain, calcareous ground, mostly shade, partly protected from direct rain, average precipitation ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 8-10 deg C, elevation 555 m (1.800 feet), alpine phytogeographical region. - Substratum: Trametes versicolor growing on a fallen, partly rotten Ostrya carpinifolia trunk. - Comments: This is probably an anamorph. No perithecia observed. But because of my lack of experience with Hypomyces I doubt in my determination in spite of the fact that observed characters fit quite well to the description in Ref.1. - Growing on pore surface of several fairly old Trametes versicolor fruitbodies. Whitish color mat over the host's hymenophore, sometimes extending over several adjacent host's fruitbodies; on the most dense places it looks almost as a thin white crust; host's basidiomata with no apparent change (observed with a magnifier 15 x). No smell. Hyphae have spread from the host to a glass plate where I collected `spores` (under a plastic cover with a piece of wet tissue inside to keep humid environment). In 4 days and 6 hours it looked like a very delicate fan-like branching of hyphae about 2 cm (0.8 inch) radius. Telemorph and anamorph stages are reported as common in North America but rare in Europe (Ref.1.). So, my doubts are even stronger. Conidia (?) form clavate, equilateral; 0-2 septate; dimensions: 27.3 (SD = 4.6) x 9.5 (SD = 1.5) micr., Q = 3.1(SD = 0.52), n = 16. - Ref.: (1) http://nt.ars-grin.gov/taxadescriptions/keys/FrameKey.cfm?gen=Hypomyces .
