Note that M. transmontana does not appear in the 1995 book ''A Key to the Vascular Plant Species of Kern County / A Flora of Kern County'' by L. Maynard Moe and Ernest C. Twisselmann. Only M. coronata and M. maritima are mentioned therein. Also, at the time of this posting, the online records for M. transmontana at CalFlora and the California Consortium of Herbaria do not include any Kern Co. records. So if this is indeed M. transmontana, the photograph documents its presence in eastern Kern County.

However, I'm wondering if it may be M. maritima? There is a voucher of M. maritima from the general area. But since the keys and descriptions in the JM2 and FNA state M. maritima has 'anthers blue, green, or purple' and 'filaments thread-like' (but perhaps dilated at base), I'll leave these images here under M. transmontana...unless a knowledgeable botanist can give (via email) a good reason supporting placing them under another species.
