Liliaceae
notes Lower portion of Calochortus fimbriatus...plant in bud, approximately two weeks prior to blooming. The lower leaves are beginning to whither, and the base of the plant is becoming purplish in color. This plant was growing in the open, but a number of other C. fimbriatus were growing upward through dense twigs of 'nurse shrubs'. When I returned to the area two weeks later, many plants had been top-clipped, their buds presumably eaten by deer or other herbivores. photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
