Phrymaceae
notes An incredibly unique, precious, and endangered plant. Many thanks to the kind and generous friends who led me to it. Their good-will is well-appreciated, though their names go unmentioned here, to shield them and the plants. Quite sad that its former abundance and range has been so diminished by (indirect) anthropogenic disturbance---namely the super large-acreage cattle ranching which dominates the vast majority of the southwestern Sierra foothill range of this plant. Cattle seem to love to (over)trample it's habitat [that being granite outcrops surrounded by Ribes quercetorum]. Populations could perhaps be protected by appropriate exclusion of cattle from a relatively small amount of selected habitat without significantly diminishing cattle acreage. (So many problems can be addressed, if the good-will and effort are there!)camera Shot with a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f7.1, 1/200, ISO 100, using a Canon 100mm macro lens.
photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
