INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Apr 28, 2007
  • location   Abbott's Lagoon, Point Reyes National Seashore (Marin County, California, US)
  • family Montiaceae
  • notes   The Claytonia was growing up through other vegetation in a marshy area, with its flowering stems blooming and cascading over low hummocks of the underlying plants. Note that the stamens mature before the stigmas: the flower in the upper left is the oldest, it's stigmas are fully unfurled and it's anthers (only barely discernable) are lying flat against the corolla. The other flowers are younger, with the stigmas only beginning to splay out and the stamens still upright.
  • camera   Shot on a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f14, 1/200, ISO 100 with a Canon 50mm compact macro lens.
