INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  May 7, 2006
  • location   White Creek, about 16 air miles northwest of Coalinga (Fresno County, California, US)
  • family Boraginaceae
  • notes   Detail of fruit of Pectocarya pusilla. Among the Pecto's I've seen, P. pusilla appears closest to P. setosa. It can be distinguished from that species by the distinctly 'diamond' or 'kite' shaped nutlets and the 'open' gestalt of the plant. (P. setosa has smoothly rounded nutlets, bordered by a pronounced membranous margin...and the plants are more robust, with leaves, fruits and flowers more closely spaced on the stems.)
  • camera   Shot at f4.5 1/500, ISO 400, on a Canon Digital Rebel XT w/ a Canon 50mm Compact macro lens.
  • photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
