notes A good description of Meconella californica appears on the Flora of North America website at http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=1&taxon_id=233500778. A number of key features are discernable in the image: basal leaves spatulate, cauline leaves whorled; petals 6, alternately obovate and narrowly ovate; stamens 12; receptacle shorter than broad, expanded into a small ring beneath calyx (see the drooping bud at middle right edge of image). Note also the long linear developing fruits (there is one visible in the lower right corner of the image.)camera Shot on a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f14, 1/200, ISO 100, with a Canon 50mm compact macro lens.
