Convict Creek trail, at approx. elevation of 8550', about 2.75 miles from the trailhead at Convict Lake (and about 1/2 mile before the infamous creek crossing). Inyo National Forest. (Mono County, California, US)family

notes This is apparently a disjunct location for this unusual species. It was discovered by members of a Jepson Herbarium field trip on July 23, 2005. The discovery reportedly caused the trip leader to jump for joy and vocalize wildly :-) Each of the photos of this species posted on Calphotos to date was made by members of that field trip. Distinctive features of the species are the ascending leaf segments (meaning that they tend to point towards the apex of the frond) and the occasional presence of sporangia on the basal segments of the leafy frond.
