notes Regrettably the lateral view of a basking turtle dated 2004, bearing # 0000 0000 0904 0458 and identified as a western pond turtle Clemmys marmorata is a red-eared slider, Trachemys scripta elegans, unfortunately a widespread feral species in California (and many places elsewhere in the temperate and tropical world. Please remove it from page 12 of the section devoted to California's one unequivocally native aquatic chelonian.
