notes This is a lateral view of the head of a specimen that has been cleared with enzymes and glycerin and stained with alizarin red (bone) and alcian blue (cartilage. This is a miniaturized species. The skull is poorly developed and the bones frequently do not articulate with neighbors. The sensory capsules (blue olfactory capsule to left, large unstained eye center left, dark red auditory capsule to right) are relatively enormous.
