plant community Mixed Oak woodland/Chaparral on relatively sandly substrate.notes This native vetch has a two-flowered, peduncled inflorescence. The flowers and fruit are well-spaced on the peduncles and the style tip (not shown here) has a small but distinctive 'unicorn-like' tuft of hairs on the outside (convex) edge, just below the (hairy) stigma. The similar looking Vicia ludoviciana has flowers and fruits very close to each other and lacks the 'unicorn' style tuft.camera Shot on a Canon D60 at f5, 1/250 w/ a 50mm Canon Compact macro lens.
