habitat Pampas, Cerrado grasslandsnotes Bothrops alternatus (Serpentes: Viperidae) was until recently erroneously considered as a forest-dwelling species. However, this taxon is typical of open, grassland-type habitats, such as campo limpo and campo sujo in the Cerrado region. Although a generalist diet is probably the ancestral dietary mode in Bothrops, this species and most others in the alternatus group are mammal specialists (see Martins et al., 2002, in Biology of the Vipers or Valdujo et al., 2002, Journal of Herpetology, 36: 169-176). This specimen is deposited in UnB herpetological collection (CHUNB 19266), and was collected in campo sujo in Emas National Park.photo category: Animal - Reptile
