INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Apr 2000
  • location   Emas National Park, central Brazilian Cerrado (Brazil) (Brazil)
  • habitat  Cerrado
  • notes   Although extremely patchy and variable, habitat types throughout the Cerrado domain can be divided in two major categories: interfluvial and riparian areas. This picture shows typical riparian habitats, such as wet grassland and gallery forest (center) surrounded by different types of interfluvial savannas, ranging from sparse grasslands to dense typical cerrado. This habitat mosaic accounts for local distributional patterns of Cerrado squamate reptiles, with forest-dwelling lineages (from Amazonia or the Atlantic Forest) inhabiting mostly riparian forests, while typical open-country lineages (from the Chaco, Pampas or Caatinga) inhabit interfluvial savannas and grasslands.
