  • notes   Slo.: rumeni skrečnik - syn.: Bugula chamaepitys (L.) Scop., Bulga chamaepitys (L.) Kuntze, Chamaepitys vulgaris Link, Chamaepitys vulgaris Spenn., Teucrium chamaepitys L. - Habitat: abandoned fields, sparse grassy areas; sandy, calcareous ground; open, sunny, dry locations; elevation of 12 m (39 feet); average precipitation of about 1,000 mm per year; average temperature of 12-14 °C; Sub-Mediterranean phytogeographical region. - Substratum: soil. - Comment about the Flick album Ajuga chamaepitys ssp. chamaepitys: In the genus Ajuga, four or five species flourish in Slovenia and Croatia, respectively. The flowers of most species in the Lamiaceae family (such as mint, deadnettle, or sage) typically have fused petals shaped into two lips: an upper lip and a lower lip. The genus Ajuga is distinctive because it features only a well-developed lower lip, which aids identification. The flowers of these species are mainly blue-violet, with rare occurrences of pink or occasionally white. Ajuga chamaepitys is unique as it blooms yellow, making it easily identifiable. Additionally, the leaves of this species are notably three-lobed with linear lobes, a defining characteristic that helps distinguish it from other members of this genus. The plant is a Mediterranean floral element often found in warm habitats, although it can also appear in more continental regions of Europe. In Slovenia, it is rarer than all three other species of the genus. - Ref.: (1) A.
