  • family Asteraceae
  • notes   Slo.: rožnati gadnjak, rožnati kačjak - syn.: Scorzonera rosea Waldst. & Kit., Scorzonera purpurea subsp. rosea (Waldst. & Kit.) Nyman; Podospermum roseum subsp. peristericum (Formánek) Gemeinholzer & Greuter - Habitat: mountain grassland, slightly inclined mountain slope, almost on the mountain ridge, south aspect; calcareous, skeletal ground; average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 3-5 deg C, elevations 1.540 m (5.050 feet), alpine phytogeographical region. - Substratum: soil. - Comments (pertain to pictures in Flicker album Podospermum roseum): Podospermum roseum is a beautiful daisy flower. Its habit is very similar to numerous other yellow flowering daisies, which are common grassland inhabitants. However, its flower color is (almost - in the family Asteraceae there are about 32,000 species known) unique. Hence, it's easy to recognize it. It's not a common plant and also has fairly limited world distribution: in some East European countries, Italy, Austria, and the Balkan peninsula. So, if you find it, take a close look at it! - Ref.: (1) A. Martinči et all., Mala Flora Slovenije (Flora of Slovenia - Key) (in Slovenian), Tehnična Založba Slovenije (2007), p 626. (2) D.
