Keckiella breviflora (Bush Beardtongue, Gaping Keckiella) | The genus Keckiella was split from the genus Penstemon. The "gaping" appearance of the flowers in this image are typical of many Keckiella. According to the key in Hickman, the upper lip exceeding the length of the tube and throat eliminates all but K. antirrhinoides and K. breviflora. The color of the flower then identifies it as K. breviflora, which I am also familiar with in the wild. |
