This image is either of Sequoia sempervirens rather than Sequoiadendron giganteum, and shows the two kinds of leaves; OR the image is of both S. giganteum at bottom AND S. sempervirens at top, for purposes of comparison. Both species of redwood can have the awl-like leaves, but S. giganteum does not have the linear, two-ranked leaves shown at top.
