03/28/2011 Michael Cunningham  taxon changed Amietia vertebralis (Mountain Stream Frog) Strongylopus grayii (Gray's Stream Frog)
This photo shows a very long toe IV and a great discrepancy between IV and V - typical of grayii, which has unwebbed toes, rather than Amietia vertebralis, where toe IV is not as long and the toes are webbed. Also, this frog has a bluntly pointed snout, as S. grayii, not the broader, rounded snout of A. vertebralis. The location, Cathkin Park, is more than 1000m below the known altitudinal limits of A. vertebralis and in the wrong habitat, supporting the assignment of this one to S. grayii.
05/16/2012 Martin Pickersgill  taxon changed Strongylopus grayii Strongylopus hymenopus (Gray's Stream Frog)
According to Clarke & Poynton 2012 (Zootaxa 3195)Tarrant et al's 2008 synonymy of Strongylopus hymenopus with Amietia fuscigula is unfounded. The specimen in the photo corresponds perfectly with Poynton's 1964 description of the type and subsequent material in its well-webbed toes, relatively broad head, rounded, bumpy skin glands and dorsal pattern.
