Penn Martin is an avid amateur botanist and the founder and sole botanist/photographer for the Shasta Wildflowers Project, a (futile?) attempt to catalog and photograph all the flowering plant species within 25 miles of the summit of Mount Shasta, building upon the work of Dr. W. Bridge Cookeand others. Having been astounded by the profusion of wildflowers in Panther Meadows on Mount Shasta in 1999, Penn began seriously photographing and cataloguing species in 2003. The ongoing result is the 400+ species database and expanding image archive at www.shastawildflowers.com.

Penn Martin has studied field botany at College of the Siskiyous and Southern Oregon University. He is currently engaged in more field work, habitat restoration and independent study on the recent developments in phenological taxonomy. Penn will also be offering guided wildflower tours this season of selected habitats around Mount Shasta through Shasta Mountain Guides, www.shastaguides.com.

Special interests: wildflowers located on Mt. Shasta and in the immediately surrounding bioregion.
