Retired after 31 years as lead Botanist for the Nevada Division of Natural Heritage (formerly Nevada Natural Heritage Program) in Carson City, Nevada, 1991-2022. Now volunteering at the Herbarium, Museum of Natural History, University of Nevada, Reno. I've studied, identified, collected, and photographed vascular plants extensively in southwestern North America since 1980, and also in northern Alabama and Xinjiang, China. Deep Springs College 1979-1981, Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, 1983-1986 (B.S. Botany and Geology), Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden and the Claremont Graduate School in 1986-1992 (Ph.D. Systematic Botany).
Special interests: Flora of the White Mountains of CA-NV and adjacent areas, Nevada rare plants, flora of the Great Basin and Mojave Deserts and surrounding mountains, and Asteraceae (sunflower family). Author for the genera Ancistrocarphus, Chaenactis, Chamaechaenactis, Diaperia, Filago, Hesperevax, Logfia, Micropus, Micropsis, Psilocarphus, and Stylocline for Flora of North America North of Mexico, The Jepson Manual, and other projects.
