notes Habitat shot for remarkable population of Erythronium helenae, a fairly rare plant associated with serpentine substrates and endemic to the general area around where Napa, Lake, and (to a lesser extent) Sonoma Counties meet. This was by far the largest flowering aggregation of this species I've ever seen. It followed a winter of record amounts of rainfall, and a fairly recent fire. Elmer Applegate's 1935 study of the genus Erythronium treats E. helenae on pg. 109. photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
