notes Slo.: pikasta pijavčica - Habitat: unmaintained grassland; flat terrain, calcareous, colluvial ground; partly sunny place; average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 7-9 deg C, elevation 555 m (1.820 feet), Alpine phytogeographical region. - Substratum: soil. - Comments (pertain to pictures in Flicker album Lysimachia punctata): Lysimachia punctata is a tall, showy plant up to 1 m height, in some cases even more. In many of the European countries as well as in America it is an alien plant, native to south Europe, Balkan peninsula and Turkey. Nowadays it is naturalized in most European countries and USA. It was introduced only in recent history therefor it is called a neophyte. Because of its beauty it is in a large-scale cultivation all over the world and most frequently seen in gardens. But, quite often one can find plants, which are either wild or they escaped from gardens. - There exists a very similar species – yellow loosestrife (Lysimachia vulgaris). From far it is difficult to distinguish both species. One has to look closer to their petals. If they have glandulous hairy edges, then it is Lysimachia punctata, otherwise it is Lysimachia vulgaris. - Following Ref. 4 and 5, this, probably sub-spontaneous find, seems to be the first record of this species in the Upper Soča valley upstream of Bovec and in MTB square 9648/1. - Ref.: (1) A.
