A tiny 'micro bee fly' (family Mythicomyiidae...images here) can be seen near the center of the head. It's perched on a style branch of a disk floret, and my guess is it was feeding on pollen stuck to the fine hairs there.

Looking carefully at the flower in the full-size image, note the dark-orange thread-like stamen filaments, visible below the lighter-orange anther tubes of each disk floret...through which the yellow, distally puberulent (mostly unopened) style branches project upwards.
