  • notes   Slo.: rogata zajčja detelja - syn: Xanthoxalis corniculata (L.) Small, Oxalis repens Thunb., Oxalis villosa M. Bieb., Xanthoxalis repens (Thunb.) Moldenke. - Habitat: Abandoned fields, among bushes; flat terrain; calcareous, skeletal ground; dry and partly sunny place; elevation 12 m (40 feet); average precipitations ~ 950 mm/year, average temperature 13-15 deg C, Sub-Mediterranean phytogeographical region. - Substratum: soil. - Comments (pertain to pictures in Flicker album Oxalis corniculata): Oxalis corniculata is another beautiful and ubiquitous 'weed', mostly considered to be 'good for nothing' in fields, lawns, gardens, parks and small and large flower pots, if not, as an invasive plant, hated. Once your property is infected, you are lost. - Yet, it is a nice flowering plant. Its leaves are edible and it can be used for preparing tea. It is also full of vitamin C. It has an unusual ability to accumulate copper from ground. Already in the 15th century during Ming Dynasty the text 'Precious Secrets of the Realm of the King of Xin' describes how to locate underground copper deposits by extracting trace elements of copper from the plant (Ref.: 3.). - Ref.: (1) A.
