  • family Xanthorrhoeaceae
  • notes   Slo.: no name, CH: cevasti čepljez - syn.: Asphodelus tenuifolius Cav., Asphodeloides ramosa Moench., Verinea fistulosa (L.) Pomel - Habitat: ruderal road side; stony, calcareous ground; open, dry, sunny place; locally almost flat terrain; elevation 80 m (260 feet); average precipitations ~ 900 mm/year, average temperature 13-15 deg C, Sub-Mediterranean phytogeographical region. - Substratum: soil. - Comment (pertains to Flickr album Asphodelus fistulosus): Asphodelus fistulosus is native to south Europe or Mediterranean region, however, today it is spread almost on the whole planet including north and south America, Australia, etc. In the USA it is listed as a priority noxious and invasive plant. Slovenia flora doesn't know it. The most northern stands in the Adriatic Sea region are in Istria and Lošinj island in the Kvarner bay, where it is quite a rare plant. More south in the Dalmatia region of Croatia it becomes much more frequent species. - Asphodelus fistulosus prefers disturbed and barren places. The species can be easily recognized by its thin tubular leaves and characteristic habit. It frequently grows in large colonies. Since it can be almost 1 m tall, there is really no problem to recognize this beautiful Mediterranean plant. - Ref.: (1) R.
