notes The US Fish & Wildlife Service Refuge Manager introduced me to 'George', or 'Lonesome George', a Short-tailed Albatross who had been coming to Midway for years and not finding a mate. I returned to George's location 4 days later and found a large bird hanging out with Lonesome George, but without the golden feathers on its' head and neck. It had a dark band on the back of its' neck, and a large pink bill. When I reported this to FWS, they verified it as another Short-tailed Albatross and the pair has returned every year since, with 2 successful fledglings (2019 & 2020). Note the Black-footed and Laysan Albatrosses around the pair.camera Olympus TG-4
