It's interesting that at this locale the phenology of the bulk of the population was still in 'flowering stage', with few fruits present...whereas less than two miles away and a month earlier much of the Microseris douglasii population in this photo was well into the 'fruiting stage' and I saw no Microseris flowers at all during visits on multiple days.

The takeaway is that the start and duration of the flowering stage and/or fruiting stage for a population depends on many factors and can vary not just with the year, but with the location on a fairly fine scale.
