notes Fruiting head at left, and nodding bud (in dull focus) at right. The fruits of M. douglasii can vary from hairy to glabrous. The outer (i.e. more peripheral) cypselas are densely short-hairy here, whereas those more towards the center of the disk are glabrous. Most the fruits here have 5 aristate pappus scales...though at least one here has 4. The membranous scale bodies are lance-ovate, beige colored, arcuate, involute, and abaxially short, white-hairy with tapered apices more-or-less entire (not bifid!). Scale body length less than cypsela length. Midrib white to pale-beige, more-or-less linear, midrib width < 1/5 scale width. Terminal aristae barbellate, length generally greater than length of scale body. photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
