Asteraceae
notes Detail of fruits/pappus. Cypselas 4.5-5 mm, 10-ribbed, ribs finely scabrous. Star-like pappus of 5 aristate scales. Membranous scale bodies lance-ovate, pale-cream colored, longitudinally-arcuate, laterally-involute, margins (and mid-rib abaxially) ciliate, apices erose (not bifid!). Scale body length less than cypsela length. Midrib of scale tawny-beige, gradually tapering from base, midrib width < 1/5 scale width. Terminal aristae barbellate, length generally greater than length of scale body (note that some aristae in the photo may have been broken and appear shorter than their original length). photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
