notes Slo.: rdečerepka - syn.: Dasychira pudibunda L. - Habitat: found in a house placed near mixed wood, Fagus sylvatica dominant; slightly inclined mountain slope, southeast aspect; calcareous ground; average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 7-9 deg C, elevation 600 m (1.970 feet), alpine phytogeographical region. - Comment: This is a larva - caterpillar of Pale Tussock Moth, a night flier, which feeds mostly with Fagus sylvatica leaves but also with leaves of many other broadleaved trees and shrubs. It may become a serious pest in forests and orchards. The moth is more or less unicolor, but attractive in its shape, particularly by its large, comb like antlers and forward-facing furry legs. The caterpillars are very colorful and bizarre with its abundant hairs and its reddish 'tail' (pencil). Usually the caterpillar is yellow, but brown, ocher, red, green, gray-violet, lemon yellow with yellow, reddish or silvery-white hairs also occur. Only their 'tails' are always reddish.camera Nikon D700 / Nikkor Micro 105mm/f2.8
