notes This was an interesting new plant for me. A brief description, photos, and a map of collection records appears on the SEINET Dracocephalum parviflorum page...and the original 1818 description by Thomas Nutall appears at this link. Note that this 1988 collection record is about 10 km to the north of the location here. As noted by in the 2010 'Vascular Plants of the High Sierra San Pedro Mártir, Baja California, Mexico: an Annotated Checklist', by Thorne, Moran, and Minnich (PDF here)...Dracocephalum parviflorum is unreported from Alta California (USA) and did not appear in Wiggins' 1980 'Flora of Baja California'. Here are the BONAP range maps for genus Dracocephalum...note D. parviflorum is our only native species. Of course, I would have liked to encounter a plant in more fully-photogenic flower...but I'm grateful to have seen any of these plants at all (and there were some flowers peaking out :-). [PS: Just noticed that Jepson Workshop leader Jon Rebman got a very nice shot of flowers of this same plant...I'm guessing he shaded the plant, and didn't (foolishly) use flash like I did! But the EXIF data indicates the date of both our photos was June 21 rather than June 22.]photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
