INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  May 18, 2007
  • location   Mt Diablo (Contra Costa County, California, US)
  • family Onagraceae
  • notes   Clarkia concinna ssp. concinna is the only subspecies recorded for Mt Diablo in 'The Flowering Plants of Mount Diablo' by Errter & Bowerman. They mention that subspecies automixta occurs in the Mt. Hamilton area, and has stigma nestled among (vs. extending beyond) the anthers; and petals 1-2 cm (vs. 1.5-3 cm) and less deeply lobed. Although the stigma here does seem to be among the anthers in the flower on the far right, this is presumably subspecies concinna.
