  • notes   This interesting plant typically grows low against hard packed ground and is often well-camoflagued and easy to overlook. p>Note the curious persistent pedicels...with lateral pairs of dark-red, gland-like, spine-tipped ''horns''...that remain attached to the inflorescence axis after the aging calyces and fruits drop (see the more detailed companion image here).
