notes It took me a while to become confident that this was Nama pusilla as opposed to N. depressa (or various other species in the genus, since the Jepson eFlora key requires determining whether there are 1 or 2 styles to separate some species, which is not visible in most photos). The following resources helped me settle on N. pusilla: Asa Gray's 1884 descriptions of both N. depressum and N. pusillum (see here); Jepson's 1940 treatment here; and Hitchcock's 1933 study of Nama. Note that, for a number of Nama species, one commonly finds two different spellings for the specific epithets (neuter -um endings vs. feminine -a endings, see explanation here). This can be a bit confusing. In particular, note that at present the CalFlora Nama page has two different reference pages for each of a number of single taxa! photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
