  • location   Mt. Mangart's plateau, at the foot of Mt. Mangart's west face, close to the bottom of the middle snow valley, East Julian Alps (Posočje, Slovenia)
  • notes   Slo.: oklepasti kamnokreč - Habitat: alpine grassland, close to a snow valley, almost flat terrain, full sun; calcareous, partly acid ground, average precipitation ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 0-2 deg/C, elevation 1.970 m (6.450 feet), alpine phytogeographical region. Substratum: soil. Comment: Saxifraga androsacea is a tiny plant, actually not easy to spot. In addition it is not common although broadly distributed all over the Alps and many other European high mountains. Hence it is not frequently encountered. It is present also in Altai and as far as in arctic regions of east Siberia. Ref.: (1) D. Aeschimann, K. Lauber, D.M. Moser, J.P. Theurillat, Flora Alpina, Vol. 1., Haupt (2004), p 714. (2) T.
