| Reviewer's comments: | | | "Tomentose stems are not typical of var. nudum, but this feature occurs frequently in Marin County at least along the coast; this i attribute to introgression from E. latifolium (the two hybridize freely). In my experience var. auriculatum only occurs south of the Bay. It has glabrous stems, only one involucre per node (this has 2), and the stems are hollow (this i would bet is solid, in conformance with var. nudum)" |
