notes This triptych shows the same portion of the inflorescence of a Piperia transversa plant, sequentially rotated clockwise (looking downward) by about 60° (from pane 1 to pane 2); and 90° (from pane 2 to pane 3). Note that in bud the flowers are not (horizontally) transverse to the flowering stalk...but as they mature they tend to get more so. This keys to P. transversa in the Jepson eFlora Piperia key. The key and discussion in Coleman's 'The Wild Orchids of California' and the FNA key and description all support P. transversa here.
