notes Detail of the flowering head...with the marginal bracts of the head pressed downward to better reveal the calyces of a few flowers. The calyx lobes here are (abaxially) more or less glabrous — or a bit puberulent — with some marginal ciliate hairs present. (It's actually hard to tell how much the texture visible on the calyx in this image is due to ''cellular glisten'' versus puberulence.) These characters are used in many references to (partially) characterize L. androsaceus. In particular, note that the calyx lobes here are not densely hairy, the character most keys use to distinguish L. parviflorus, which is sometimes confused with L. parviflorus. The plant in this series of photos was growing within a few feet of the plant in the post here. photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
