INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Apr 20, 2015
  • location   Arroyo de la Cruz (San Luis Obispo County, California, US)
  • family Boraginaceae (formerly Hydrophyllaceae)
  • notes   Detail of flowers of Phacelia ramosissima. The striking contrast between the intricate venation and the pale windows in between are a source of delight for me...reminiscent of one of my favorite Phacelia species, the annual P. exilis.

I had been a major fan of Phacelia for some time before this species even registered on my radar. Considering how widespread and conspicuous it is, I'm puzzled by how little I hear it mentioned or discussed among botanists.
