notes The plants here were growing on a steep bank: the plant at bottom is seen from above here; the upper plant is seen more or less in profile. . Clarkia concinna has three subspecies, and this one, C. c. raichei is distinguished by: having stigma at roughly the same level as the anthers (not exserted beyond); and having relatively small flowers, each petal with three relatively short apical lobes having shallow sinuses. The buds are pendent; whereas the developing fruits are ascending to erect. It and its sister species, Clarkia breweri, are the only 2 species having four stamens among the 41 California Clarkia species. All other CA species have 8 stamens, which are grouped in 4's (one group with bases attached opposite the petals, and the other with bases attached alternate to the petals). high resolution file https://www.flickr.com/photos/17069890@N03/17371537596/sizes/o
